MZ message on prescriptions for narcotics and psychotropic drugs
Published Oct. 26, 2023 07:54
The Health Ministry is extending until the end of the year the rule on verifying the history of prescriptions for narcotics and psychotropic drugs before issuing more. The rule will have a warning category, rather than a blocking category.
The Health Ministry reminds that on August 2, 2023, regulations went into effect that, for the sake of patient safety, restrict prescriptions for narcotic and psychotropic drugs. The new rules for prescribing stem from a regulation signed by the Health Minister on July 12, 2023, amending the regulation on narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, category 1 precursors and preparations containing these drugs or substances (Journal of Laws, item 1368), and apply to prescriptions for preparations containing a narcotic agent of group I-N or II-N, a psychotropic substance of group II-P, III-P or IV-P, or a category 1 precursor.
In view of the need for healthcare entities to comply with the technical and organizational requirements under the July 12, 2023 Health Ministry regulation, the rule warning instead of blocking prescriptions will remain in effect until December 31, 2023.
