Drug verification in numbers

In 2023, an impressive number of nearly 800 million packages of medicines were verified and dispensed in the Polish Drug Authenticity Verification System, maintaining a weekly average of 15.2 million units. Handling efficiency in the previous year averaged 40.5 million transactions per week, which translates into a total of more than 2.1 billion transactions during the year. In addition, the number of packages loaded into the system significantly exceeded 4 billion packages.

New directions: updates for data security

In response to the challenges of managing such an extensive range of data, the system vendor has made two significant upgrades to PLMVS. Their goal was to streamline and optimize the system's operation, as well as reduce the number of technical alerts that pharmacists receive on a daily basis. These innovations were aimed at increasing the transparency and efficiency of communication with the marketing authorization holder (Marketing Authorization Holder) and facilitating the analysis of alerts.

Virtual revolution in alert management

One of the more significant improvements for system users in 2023 was the introduction of the new National Alert Management System application. NAMS not only enables faster and more efficient communication with the drugmaker, but also provides optimized tools for analyzing and managing alerts.
The application provides the ability to check alerts generated by PLMVS users. In addition, it identifies potential technical causes for these alerts, which significantly facilitates their analysis and clarification.

By automatically transmitting alert information to NAMS, the process of managing alerts becomes clearer, simpler, and enables effective analysis and assessment of the situation to be undertaken.

This innovative application is another step toward increasing patient safety and efficiency of PLMVS.

Flexible solutions in practice

The EMVO organization, together with the COWAL Foundation, not only maintains high standards when administering the drug verification system, but also proactively responds to the needs of the market with innovative solutions that make the entire system more flexible, efficient and safe for all stakeholders.

These initiatives demonstrate the organization's position based on dynamism and modernity, moving in the direction of ensuring pharmaceutical safety. They are an important contribution to international efforts to prevent counterfeit drugs from entering the legal market.
