The Minister of Health, in a special communiqué, announced that vaccination against COVID-19 with vaccines adapted to subvariant BA.4-5 and subvariant XBB.1.5 will be implemented until August 31, 2024, due to the expiration dates of vaccines available at vaccination centers (Nuvaxovid XBB.1.5 for those aged 12+ years valid until August 31, 2024; Comirnaty BA.4-5 valid until July 31, 2024; Comirnaty Junior for children aged 5-11 years valid until August 31, 2024).
The European Medicines Agency issued recommendations on April 30, 2024 for the composition of the COVID-19 vaccine for the 2024/2025 season, recommending the inclusion of sub-option JN.1.
As of August 31 this year, pending the issuance of new recommendations by the Minister of Health on the implementation of COVID-19 vaccinations for the 2024/2025 season, appointments and vaccinations will not be carried out at POZ entities and pharmacies.
Automatically issued referrals through the system, even after August 31 this year, will entitle to vaccinations under the terms of the Minister's new communication on the implementation of COVID-19 vaccinations for the 2024/2025 season.
As of September 1 of this year, the Health Minister's Announcement No. 34, dated January 10, 2024, will no longer apply.
At the same time, the Ministry of Health recommends that vaccination centers adjust the number of available appointments in the Central e-Registration system to the current stock of vaccine doses and their expiration dates.
