The day was established in 2007 by the FDI- World Dental Federation. It is an opportunity to raise awareness and encourage engagement to promote health-oriented attitudes in the context of oral well-being.
The FDI indicates that tooth decay is one of the most common diseases in the world. As much as 90 percent of the population struggles with oral problems. Polish epidemiological data from surveys conducted by the Ministry of Health as part of the "Oral Health Monitoring" program indicate that 99.9 percent of Poles aged 35-44 face tooth decay.
- The burden of oral diseases requires patients and dentists to be proactive at every level: individual, family and community. A holiday such as today is the perfect opportunity to draw special attention to the importance of prevention. It is thanks to our daily oral hygiene habits and proper care and dental check-ups during dental visits that patients can enjoy a healthy smile. It's good to be an example for others and to spread habits among your loved ones, which will ultimately not only help avoid tooth decay, but also many other serious diseases," notes vice president of the Supreme Medical Council and chairman of the NRL's Dental Committee, Pawel Barucha.
