- We don't know yet whether there will be changes to the abortion law. We have three bills in the Sejm, including, among others, the one from the Civic Coalition, which liberalizes the anti-abortion law, and we will debate it," said Health Minister Izabela Leszczyna in an interview with TVP Info. The idea of liberalizing the abortion law was one of the flagships for the first 100 days of the new government.

- We won't make it in 100 days, but women in Poland have waited so many years that they are understanding and wise. They know that they voted for a democratic opposition, in order for the law to change in various aspects," assessed Izabela Leszczyna.

Meanwhile, voices are being heard in the world of politics saying that there is no point in proceeding with legislation relaxing abortion laws as long as Andrzej Duda is president. This is because the ruling coalition does not have a majority that would be able to override a presidential veto, which Andrzej Duda would most likely reach for if the Sejm were to pass such legislation.

- We will not wait a year and a half as long as Andrzej Duda is president. This is the decision of Speaker Szymon Holownia. If I were to make it, I think that throwing this topic now to a polarized society at a time of political aggravation before the local elections is not good. However, I think we should deal with it immediately after the elections," said Izabela Leszczyna.

- I can't get over the hypocrisy of having conservative MPs fall asleep with a peaceful conscience because they banned abortions in Poland. Meanwhile, I and all those who are willing to open their eyes know that abortions are, that they are done illegally, clandestinely, so dangerous. The other option is to go abroad, so abortions are only available to those who can afford it. This is unfair," she added.

The Health Minister stressed that her ministry is currently working on the "Safe, Informed Me" package. It includes HPV vaccinations for girls and boys, prenatal testing for all women in whom doctors deem they are needed, as well as improving perinatal care, providing access to IVF. Oncoplastic issues are also to be addressed.
