Night alcohol sales at gas stations. Health minister announces ban

A survey conducted by UCE Research and the Blix Group found that 48.7 percent of 18-35 year olds believe that nighttime alcohol sales at gas stations should be banned. A law that would result in such a restriction is already ready, the Health Minister said.
- It is already submitted to the Government Programming Team, and I will be ready to go to the Diet with it in September. It seems to me that there should be no obstacles. The information that gas stations live off the sale of alcohol is nonsense, because it's more or less 1 percent of income for them. There is no question that this will bring negative economic effects," Izabela Leszczyna said at Thursday's press conference.
The head of the health ministry also has plans for ways to curb the sale of alcohol in small bottles, the so-called "monkeys." She is in talks with Finance Minister Andrzej Domanski about increasing excise taxes.
- My goal is that the additional fee imposed on these packages will be much higher than that for normal packages. I want to reduce their availability," said Izabela Leszczyna.
Data from the National Center for Addiction Prevention shows that Poles are consuming more and more alcohol. In 2023, the average annual per capita consumption of alcoholic beverages per 100 percent alcohol was 9.7 liters, compared to 6.52 liters in 1993.
