It is estimated that 37,000 injuries related to the use of medical equipment by health care workers occur in Polish hospitals every year. Such accidents have serious consequences, including potential infectious diseases, high work absenteeism and longer recovery times for patients. Concerned about the safety of Polish medical personnel, the Coalition for Hospital Safety was established in 2021, within the framework of which the "Safe Hospital is Safe Patient" certification program is being conducted. The second edition of the program is currently underway - experts have decided to extend the deadline for accepting applications by 2 weeks.
- Listening to the voices of the medical community, we have decided to extend the deadline for accepting applications until Friday, April 14. We want to give medical institutions even more time to familiarize themselves with the certification form and answer all the questions that arise during its completion. We also want to convince institutions that it is worth applying for the certificate - it is a unique distinction confirming compliance with the highest safety standards," says Dr. Pawel Witt, Chairman of the Expert Council of the Coalition for Hospital Safety.
The awarding of the "Safe Hospital is Safe Patient" certificate is decided by the Program's Board of Experts, which is a team of practitioners, scientists, female scientists and representatives and representatives of medical societies. This evaluation includes verification of the indicated formal conditions to be met and the completeness of the form sent by the participant of the application. The Certificate will be issued for 2 years with the possibility of recertification after the specified date. Participation in the Certification is voluntary and free of charge.

The Coalition for Hospital Safety was established in 2021, and its main goal is to increase the safety of health care workers in the workplace, including by promoting and encouraging hospitals to use safe medical equipment. The coalition's main project is the Declaration's "Safe Hospital is Safe Patient" program, which is joined by Polish medical facilities that follow the Declaration's recommendations. Patrons of the project include the National Health Fund, the Patient Ombudsman, the Supreme Chamber of Nurses and Midwives, the Polish Federation of Hospitals, the Polish Association of Epidemiological Nurses, the Polish Society of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Nurses, the Polish Society of Epidemiologists and Doctors of Infectious Diseases, the Polish Vascular Access Club, the Association of Hygienic Medicine and the National Association of Private Hospitals.
