Every two years in February, the Central Statistical Office publishes a comprehensive report on the structure of remuneration in entities employing at least ten people. This year, the report was prepared on the basis of data for October 2020 (in February 2020, the report was based on data from October 2018, etc.). The study covers only people employed under employment contracts, which in the case of health care is of great importance, because a significant part of medical professionals (especially doctors) work under contracts.

What do we know? The average gross salary in the study group for October 2020 was PLN 5,748.24. In the public sector it amounted to PLN 6,041.77 and was higher than in the private sector - PLN 5,618.79. Men's wages were higher than women's wages by an average of 14.7 percent.

The average monthly salary for October 2020 of people working in health care and social assistance was slightly lower than the average salary among the surveyed professional groups. This is the effect of including all full-time employees and combining health care with the (even) lower-paid social welfare sector. It was slightly below PLN 5748.24.

According to the report, doctors are one of the higher-earning professional groups. Their average remuneration amounted to PLN 10,909.24 - this gives them the fourth place in the ranking of the best earners (full-time jobs).

The CSO report shows that some medical professions are among the most feminized professions - midwives, nurses, nutritionists, medical and pharmaceutical technicians. In these professions, over 90 percent. of employees are women. Women also make up the majority of the medical profession. Nevertheless, only in the professions of dentist and dietitian women earned (slightly) more than men. Despite the fact that women with higher education and a doctor's degree accounted for 63.9 percent. of the respondents, the GPG (gender pay gap) ratio for this group was 19.8 percent. In other words, full-time doctors earned one-fifth less than full-time doctors. The actual disproportion between the salaries of doctors and doctors is probably even higher, due to the fact that a large proportion of women in this profession choose full-time employment.

According to the Central Statistical Office, the average monthly gross salary in medical professions was:

doctors - PLN 10,909.24,

laboratory diagnosticians - PLN 6,371,

nurses - PLN 6 299.02,

pharmacists - PLN 6,134.85,

midwives - PLN 6,100.07,

dentists - PLN 5,658.79,

other health care specialists - PLN 5,367.14,

Other associate health professionals - PLN 4,887.1,

personal care workers in the health care and related sectors - PLN 3 784.37.

And what is the ranking of occupations with remuneration above 10 thousand. PLN gross?

General and managing directors - PLN 15,838.29,

IT and telecommunications technology managers - PLN 15,147.11,

Legal specialists - PLN 10,916.09,

Doctors - PLN 10,909.24,

Sales, marketing and development managers - PLN 10,854.08,

Computer systems analysts and programmers - PLN 10,504.38,
