Luke Jankowski: Quality in the health care system is measured by patient safety.

- While there are a number of statistics on quality, what should matter to us doctors and system organizers is how to guide the patient along a clear path from diagnosis through treatment to the end of the therapeutic process, ensuring real safety. At the end of this path, it is this factor that determines quality in protection," stressed Lukasz Jankowski.
The conference presented the results of the "Hospital Diagnosis 2023" survey, which aimed to identify problems in the daily practice of doctors in hospitals. It turns out that as many as 72 percent of those surveyed are considering leaving their jobs at the hospital. The highest percentage concerns doctors in the course of specialization - more than 80 percent. 77.5 percent of respondents are dissatisfied with their working conditions. They are most often bothered by fatigue, excessive administrative work, finances, staff shortages, excessive on-call workload, claims from patients and a bad work atmosphere. One in five respondents work at least 290 hours a month, and nearly 40 percent have more than six on-call duties a month. One in three does not have the opportunity to rest immediately after being on-call.
- This survey is a cry for help from Polish hospitality, a cry to decision-makers that urgent changes are needed. What is needed is to relieve the burden on doctors by introducing assistants, to relieve the bureaucratic burden, by creating a health care system that would take care of the patient's path in the system, rather than shifting this responsibility to doctors. The results of the survey are shocking even to us hospitalists," the NRL president noted.
- The picture that emerges from the nearly half a thousand completed forms is not optimistic. We wanted to find out what the mood is among hospitalists, and we see that in general it is very bad. We see exhaustion, professional burnout and frustration," noted Marcin Karolewski, vice-president of the Regional Medical Council of the Wielkopolska Medical Chamber.
