- I believe that the results of today's meeting will contribute to better cooperation between our professions and joint action for the benefit of patients," said the head of the medical self-government Lukasz Jankowski at a joint meeting of the Presidiums of the Supreme Medical Council and the Supreme Council of Nurses and Midwives. The local governments discussed important issues concerning cooperation between the two communities in the area of legislation and the competencies of the medical profession.

NRPP President Mariola Lodzinska and NRL President Lukasz Jankowski, opening the meeting, summarized, among other things, the amendments to the law on the Center for Medical Postgraduate Education being processed in Parliament. The agenda also included other key topics, such as prescribing and prescribing of prescriptions, adjudication of temporary disability, as well as the role of nurses and midwives in the field of aesthetic medicine. Participants in the talks stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation in these areas, with the aim not only of improving the quality of medical services, but also of improving the efficiency of the health care system in Poland.

- It is important that we have the opportunity to discuss on a working basis issues that correlate with each other. I believe that the results of today's meeting will contribute to better cooperation between our professions and joint action for the benefit of patients," said the head of the Medical Council.

In the context of prescribing authority, NRL Vice President Klaudiusz Komor mentioned the struggle of the medical self-government against prescribers and the work of the Ministerial Team for Prescription and Fulfillment of Prescription of Finished and Prescription Drugs, in which he took an active part.

- A document of more than 80 pages has been produced, containing all the guidelines and all the directions in which the amendment of the pharmaceutical law should go. What's more, they are mostly voted on in all key aspects, and in fact all parties involved in the work have agreed on them. Also at this point, we should press the Ministry to simply use the finished material, which is the result of a great deal of work, both by lawyers, doctors-practitioners, representatives of local governments of medical professions," Vice President Komor argued.

PNRL members present at the meeting stressed that any "sharing" of medical competence with other professions carries a huge responsibility - not only socially, but in some cases - such as in the adjudication of temporary incapacity - also financially. Any sharing should be determined through a common position of representatives of local governments, and not imposed from the level of the ministry, which would create unnecessary dissonance.

The discussion also addressed the difficult topic of education, professional responsibility and the provision of services in aesthetic medicine. The continuing lack of regulation in this area is often exploited by outsiders, and patients suffer as a result.

- The expression "aesthetic medicine" is very dangerous, because it gives the impression that this can be performed by anyone and anywhere, which is why I dislike this expression so much. Despite the fact that there are various, very high-profile cases in Poland, or in the world, that someone has died because of an unsuccessful procedure - performed by a non-doctor or non-nurse - nothing changes. There is still little public awareness. Still, if it turns out that someone somewhere in the practice is performing something that should be reported to the prosecutor's office, there is no sound. It seems to me that we need to think about a new term that will be a true reflection that this can kill," noted NRL Vice President Pawel Barucha.

The two professional chambers expressed their willingness to continue meeting and cooperating in order to effectively shape legislation on the health care system in Poland. A joint resolution was also passed, in which representatives of the Presidiums pledged to regularly exchange information and experience, and to work together for reforms in the area of health policy.
