President of the Supreme Medical Council, Łukasz Jankowski, during a meeting with the Minister of Education and Science, Przemysław Czarnek, presented the problems and threats to the quality of healthcare, and thus for patients, resulting from the almost uncontrolled creation of medical courses at non-medical universities.

A recipe for problems with the availability of medical services, resulting from staff shortages in health care, is not the "production" of doctors associated with lowering the quality of education and detached from the next stages of work in the profession and further training - he emphasized in an interview with the minister of education and science president of the NRL. Łukasz Jankowski drew attention to the aspect of accreditation for universities and the fact that the system is not and will not be ready to provide graduates with satisfactory conditions of education and work, which poses a risk of educating doctors for export. He cited the example of Spain, where with the increase in the number of doctors resulting from the increase in the quota for studies, emigration increased drastically.

He pointed out that it is necessary to coordinate the pace of educating doctors at medical faculties and the possibilities of postgraduate education and employment in the health care system. In addition, the need for changes in the organization of the workflow of medical staff should not be overlooked, where there is still a lack of, among others, doctors' assistants, relieving them of tasks that are not strictly part of treatment or diagnostics.

The president of the NRL described to the minister the statistics which show that the number of certificates issued in Spain to doctors applying for work abroad increased from several hundred to 4 thousand within 10 years. annually. Currently, around 7,000 students are educated annually in this country. future doctors in 53 departments. Łukasz Jankowski points to the analogy of the current situation in Poland to the situation in Spain over 20 years ago. In Spain, the number of certificates issued to doctors who want to work abroad was at a similar level as it is now in our country. In Spain, emigration grew abruptly with the graduation of those students who were the first to abruptly increase their quotas.
