The Medical Event Compensation Fund is a support for patients and their relatives who have suffered harm as a result of a medical error. Thanks to it, the injured can quickly and without the need to go to court, get the benefit they are due.
Medical Event Compensation Fund: 240 people have already received compensation totalling more than PLN 14.7 million

The fund has been in operation since September 2023 and has already managed to prove its effectiveness. To date, benefits have been granted to 240 people for a total of PLN 14,730,422.40. All you have to do is apply online, and the procedure is quick and efficient.
What compensation amounts have been awarded to patients?
- In 2024 (from June to December), 159 benefits were granted for a total amount of PLN 9,303,676.40.
In 2025 (until February 24), 81 claims worth PLN 5,426,746 have already been paid.
The highest benefit amount was PLN 202,791, and the lowest was PLN 7,798. On average, the patient receives PLN 61,376.76 in compensation.
By comparison, according to data from the Ministry of Justice, in the whole of 2024 the courts awarded compensation of nearly PLN 13.7 million, less than the Fund paid out in less than eight months. In addition, pursuing claims through the courts involves long waiting times, the need to hire a lawyer and additional costs.
The fund is also about improving patient safety
The Fund's activities are not limited to paying benefits. After each compensation decision, the Patient Ombudsman's experts make recommendations to hospitals where medical incidents have occurred. This allows facilities to implement changes that prevent similar situations in the future.
This means that the Fund not only supports patients financially, but also has a real impact on improving the quality of medical services and increasing safety in hospitals.
