The Social Insurance Institution has published statistical information on the results of an audit of the correctness of temporary disability adjudication.

According to the law, Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) medical examiners inspect the correctness of temporary work disability determinations. The law also entitles the Social Insurance Institution and payers who report more than 20 insured persons for sickness insurance to control whether sick leave is used in accordance with its purpose.
In Q2 2024, the Social Security Administration carried out 123.6 thousand inspections of people with temporary disability certificates (in Q1-VI 2024, 260.8 thousand). As a result, 8.9 thousand decisions were issued withholding further payment of sickness benefits (18.6 thousand in I-VI 2024). The amount of benefits withheld on this account in Q2 2024 amounted to PLN 12,010.5 thousand (in I-VI 2024, PLN 23,990.6 thousand).
Another solution introduced by the law is limiting the base for the assessment of sickness benefit and rehabilitation benefit after the termination of the title of sickness insurance to 100% of the average salary. In Q2 2024, payments were reduced by 47,732.6 thousand, affecting 27.0 thousand people. In I-VI 2024, payments were reduced by PLN 93,494.3 thousand, covering 56.8 thousand people.
The total amount of reduced and withdrawn cash benefits from social security in case of illness and maternity in Q2 2024 amounted to PLN 59,743.7 thousand, and in Q1-VI 2024. - PLN 117,489.1 thousand.
