The Ministry of Health has announced that, at the request of the responsible entity Boehringer Ingelheim sp. z o.o., the medicinal product Pradaxa(dabigatran) has been excluded from the list of free medicines for seniors, i.e. over 65+. The change was implemented in the announcement of the Minister of Health dated March 17, 2026 on the list of reimbursed drugs, foodstuffs for special nutritional purposes and medical devices, and will take effect on April 1, 2026.

The Health Ministry says that access to free drugs with dabigatran remains open, and 13 individual medicinal products with the same active substance available under the D2 list - free drugs for people over 65 - remain in reimbursement.

To facilitate the implementation of the change at the prescribing level and preserve actual access to free dabigatran drugs for patients, it is possible to swap at the pharmacy level a Pradaxa drug written on a prescription issued before April 1, 2026, with the patient's discount and supplementary entitlement code S, for another dabigatran drug appearing on the list of free drugs for people over 65, and issue it to the patient free of charge. Other conditions for filling the prescription must remain in place, including those related to the complete exclusion of dabigatran in the indication related to thromboprophylaxis in patients with atrial fibrillation from the list of free drugs.
