Epidemiological data indicate that life expectancy in Poland, depending on, among other things, place of residence, level of education, amount and source of income, or gender, can vary by up to a dozen years. Only appropriate systemic solutions can help reduce health inequalities. Recognizing this need, patient organizations from across Poland have established the Coalition for Health Equity. The goal of the initiative is to work together to address inequalities affecting the health of Polish women and men.

The Coalition for Health Equity is a joint initiative of patient organizations from different therapeutic areas. Being in constant contact with patients, representatives of the various organizations recognize a number of daily challenges and difficulties faced by patients, including in areas directly related to the occurrence of inequalities, such as transportation exclusion. According to Coalition members, health inequalities are killing on a massive scale and urgent action must be taken to reduce them.

The Coalition for Health Equity was established by 14 patient organizations,
including organizations working for oncology, cardiology, diabetes, rheumatology, peri-transplant or rare disease patients. The work of the Coalition is coordinated by the Steering Committee, which includes: Monika Kaczmarek (Polish Diabetes Association), Dagmara Samselska (Amicus Foundation Psoriasis and Psoriasis Foundation) and Grzegorz Perzynski (LIVERstrong Transplant Foundation).

One of the goals of the Coalition's work is to bring the topic of health inequality into the public debate and to integrate the challenges of health inequality into all public policies. The member organizations have formulated a list of 6 demands, the implementation of which is expected to help reduce health inequalities. The postulates cover a variety of areas of exclusion, which result both from the economic, geographic or social location of citizens, as well as from the organization and functioning of the health care system in Poland. Coalition members declare openness and willingness to cooperate
with all circles that are interested in supporting the described project.
