- First - moderation, second - movement! These two basic rules will allow us to avoid unnecessary problems and spend Christmas time in health and peace - advises Bożena Janicka, president of PPOZ.
Christmas feasting is a nice Polish tradition, and Easter is associated with an exceptional abundance of dishes. They attract not only with their taste, but also with their appearance. Sour rye soup served in crispy bread, stuffed eggs, salads with mayonnaise, and cakes: mazurek, sandwiches, yeast cake ... Nice, delicious, but - unfortunately - hard to digest.
- As you know, both excess fat and sugar are harmful! Some foods, such as eggs, in addition to many vitamins, minerals and other health-promoting ingredients, contain a lot of unfavorable LDL cholesterol. Therefore, it is worth limiting the consumed portions to three eggs a day. We strongly advise against the consumption of colored fizzy drinks. Oversweetened, artificially colored, not only fattening, but most of all, they are harmful! You can replace them with homemade compote or lemon water! - says Bożena Janicka.
There are many culinary tricks that make Easter dishes not only tasty, but also nutritionally valuable.
- For sauces and salads, instead of fatty mayonnaise or cream, you can add natural yoghurt with the addition of reduced fat mayonnaise. Dried herbs that help and speed up digestion are great for the metabolism: savory, mustard, cumin, ginger, juniper, tarragon, rosemary. Fatty meats can be replaced with sirloin, chicken, turkey or pork loin. Warning! Baked are healthier than fried! - PPOZ doctors remind.
People with elevated cholesterol should avoid margarine-based cakes with high sugar content, such as mazurkas. Less harmful in this respect, and also less caloric, is, for example, cold cheesecake, lean cheese pascha or a piece of yeast cake (but without the icing!)
- Horseradish is a permanent element of the festive table! Perfect for white sausage, but not only. You can add variety to any meat dish. And very good, because it is a great prophylactic drug for indigestion - it effectively improves digestion, which allows you to avoid painful "bloating". Vegetables are also reliable here. Let's not forget about salads, lettuce, sprouts, and most of all - cress! This inconspicuous and often underestimated plant is a treasury of vitamins and microelements. You can add it to almost any dish - encourages Bożena Janicka.
Easter is a great occasion to gourmand, however, PPOZ doctors advise against spending it only at a lavishly set table.
- A walk after a heavy meal will allow our body to rest, and exercise will speed up the digestive processes. We wish you healthy and peaceful holidays. We appeal not only for moderation in tasting Easter delicacies, for physical activity, but also for us not to forget that the COVID-19 pandemic is still with us! Let's be careful in interpersonal relations, let's protect ourselves, and if we get infected, let's protect others. Let's put on a mask! - appeals Bożena Janicka.
