Nearly PLN 18 billion from the National Plan for Reconstruction and Enhancement of Resilience (NIP) is supporting the development of Poland's health care system. The funds go to hospitals, clinics, medical universities and research centers across the country - regardless of region. This is the largest and fastest investment program in the history of Polish health care.

The Ministry of Health has announced the progress of investments financed by NIP funds. So far, 349 projects from all over Poland have received positive evaluation, for a total amount of more than PLN 9.6 billion. The money will go to all provinces - both large teaching hospitals and smaller, local medical facilities, outpatient clinics, universities and scientific institutes.

Modern hospitals closer to the patient

The largest portion of the funds - PLN 9.4 billion - was allocated to support specialized and district hospitals, including clinics operating within their structures. Within this pool:

  • PLN 5.2 billion will be given to facilities belonging to the National Oncology Network,
  • PLN 1.5 billion will be allocated for the development of long-term care and geriatrics in county hospitals,
  • PLN 2.7 billion will support hospitals that are part of the National Cardiac Network (the call for applications runs from the end of July 2025).

The funds will be used to modernize infrastructure, purchase modern medical equipment, improve staff working conditions and patient comfort.

Digital acceleration

The second pillar of investment is digital transformation. A total of PLN 4.4 billion is earmarked for this purpose. The funds will be used to implement electronic medical records, certified artificial intelligence tools, enhance cyber security and modernize diagnostic systems.

Nearly 500 applications have been submitted for the competition, and it is scheduled to be resolved in the third quarter of 2025.

Investment in human resources and science

Another PLN 3.2 billion will go to medical universities - both for infrastructure improvements and direct support for medical students. Scholarships, non-repayable grants and mentoring programs have been planned.

The fourth area of investment is research in medical and health sciences - for which nearly PLN 1 billion has been allocated. Funding includes:

  • biomedical research,
  • development of in vitro therapy,
  • Clinical Research Support Centers,
  • Measures to enhance drug safety.
