January 8 marked five years since the introduction of mandatory electronic prescriptions in Poland. This solution has revolutionized the healthcare system, benefiting both patients and medical professionals. The eHealth Center has prepared a summary.

E-prescriptions in numbers
- More than 2.3 billion e-prescriptions issued in Poland.
- As much as 521 million of these were spent in the last 12 months.
- According to a survey by the We the Patients Foundation, more than 90% of patients rate e-prescriptions well or very well.
E-prescription has become a symbol of e-health - simple, safe and convenient.
New e-prescriptions in 2024
- Archive of e-prescriptions and e-referrals The e-Health Center has introduced the ability to organize treatment history on the Internet Patient Account. Thanks to this:
- It is easier to find active e-prescriptions.
- You can quickly view and manage previous prescriptions and referrals.
- Changes in the drug dispensing system
- As of March 1 and August 1, CeZ has implemented a function to automatically calculate the amount of drugs that can be dispensed from an annual prescription.
- The way dosages are described has been improved, allowing patients to better understand how to use the drugs.
- The changes do not apply to: prescription drugs, target import drugs and combination products (e.g. inhalers).
New reimbursement rules from 2025
From January 1, 2025, the system verifies the accuracy of information on eligibility for free drugs for:
- Children under 18 years of age,
- People over 65 years of age,
- pregnant women.
If the data is incomplete, the prescriber will receive a warning, but the prescription will remain valid.

For doctors
- Faster prescriptions and less bureaucracy.
- Easy access to the patient's treatment history.
- The ability to issue a prescription without a patient visit (e.g., for chronic diseases).
For patients
- E-prescription available on phone, email or IKP - you can't lose it.
- Quick access to the prescriptions of children or relatives (after authorization).
- The ability to redeem medications based on a QR code in the myIKP app.
For pharmacists
- Faster and safer dispensing of drugs.
- Eliminate the problem of illegible or fraudulent prescriptions.
E-prescription is the most recognized and liked e-health solution, which has made life easier for millions of Poles. According to a survey by the We Patients Foundation, more than 90% of patients rate this solution good or very good! - CEZ points out.
