We expect politicians to present a comprehensive health care reform," the president of the Supreme Medical Council, Lukasz Jankowski, said on Tuesday, summing up the two health summits. The head of the medical self-government is scheduled to meet with Health Minister Jolanta Sobieranska-Grenda on Wednesday.

- We thank the politicians that they wanted to talk with us and lean on the health care system, but on the other hand we expect that the talks will not end and that they will present a comprehensive reform at this time, and we will also convey in a substantive way the difficult information from the regions that comes to us," said Lukasz Jankowski, stressing that the medical self-government does not orient itself to any side of the political dispute, the doctors stand at the bedside of the patient. - We want to represent the system regardless of what power is at the helm today," he stated.

- Certainly, after two summits, politicians cannot say that they do not know about the problems of health care, nor can they negate these problems," assessed the head of the medical self-government, while reminding that the talks will not cure the situation in health care. - We wanted to look for points of common ground between the summits precisely to show that, despite the political dispute, in our opinion there is a possibility of some compromise or going to one side," he said.

The field for compromise, perhaps, will be found in an area that has been dominated by fierce political conflict over the past year - we are talking about health education. This was discussed at the Presidential Palace on December 5. Jankowski said that the project "faced a great deal of misunderstanding on both sides of the political dispute and turned out to be simply a great disaster and failure." - We need health education created anew, without the elements that build up this dispute, and talking both in the presidential palace and with government representatives, I saw that such a consensus on health education and a return to this topic, the healing of health education, as much as possible. We, in a substantive way, will want to be the beginning for these talks and changes," he assured. Also at the government summit (December 4), there was a signal that health education could be introduced as a compulsory subject from the new school year, although without the sexual health module, which would remain optional.

- At the health summit with the Prime Minister, our request to relieve the burden on the NFZ budget was resounding, and that those tasks that were transferred from the budget to the NFZ should return to this budget. We have a declaration from the minister, with whom I have a meeting tomorrow, that the government will work in this direction.

Lukasz Jankowski also listed the areas that were pointed out - as sensitive - at both summits: increasing outlays on health care, making valuations of medical procedures more realistic, both underestimated and overestimated, developing reliable maps of health needs with a multi-year perspective, and adjusting premises, equipment and personnel resources to them.
