Another transplantation center will be established at the Medical University of Warsaw

The consent of the Ministry of Health opens the way to the creation of another strong transplant center at the Medical University of Warsaw. Not only separate heart and lung transplants are planned, but also multi-organ transplants: simultaneous heart and lung, heart and liver, heart and kidney transplants.

Earlier, UCK MUW obtained a positive recommendation from the National Transplant Council.

Living donor lung transplantation is also planned, with particularly good results in pediatric patients.

Transplantology at UCK WUM is a dynamically and rapidly developing branch of medicine. UCK WUM clinics are the country's leading centers for liver, pancreas, kidney and bone marrow transplantation.

The experience of various transplantation clinics of UCK MUUM and the creation of a new heart and lung transplantation center will allow us to achieve the synergy effect and increase the number of multiorgan transplants in Poland.

“The Medical University of Warsaw has received permission from the Ministry of Health for lung and heart transplantation - both in adult and pediatric patients. We will also perform multi-organ transplants, i.e. hearts with liver, hearts with kidneys, as well as simultaneous heart and lung transplants. I hope that there will also be a program of mechanical heart circulation support, that is, implantation of pumps, intended for patients who are not eligible for heart transplantation, or for patients who are eligible and awaiting transplantation. These are pumps that are also intended for children and I hope that this program will also work in a pediatric hospital. "

“For several days now, we have been proud of the consent to heart and lung transplantation in the thoracic surgery department of the Cardiac Surgery Department of UCK, Medical University of Warsaw. I think it is great news for all pulmonary and cardiological patients that another center will be created in central Poland, which will be able to transplant the lungs of these patients. The uniqueness of our center is that here thoracic surgeons cooperate with cardiac surgeons, so various combinations of simultaneous heart and lung transplantation are possible. In addition, there is a children's hospital right next to it, where pediatric patients are waiting for heart and lung transplants, and so far no such procedures, especially lung transplants, have taken place. I am talking about patients who are less than 140 centimeters tall. Our program will also be new to live donation, which is particularly beneficial in the case of children. "
