OZZL has received with great disappointment and indignation the information that 'Health Education' in Polish schools will not be a compulsory subject. - We strongly oppose this decision and remind you that public health and the condition of society should be a priority for any education system, regardless of political views!

OZZL points out that Poland is already facing an epidemic of diseases of civilization, such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension and depression. Many of these conditions could be effectively reduced through proper education. A healthy society means a lower burden on the health care system, lower costs of chronic disease management and higher productivity among citizens. Lack of proper education in this area can lead to increased medical costs, reduced quality of life and shorter life expectancy.

Health education and prevention, is an investment in a nation's future, prosperity and economic stability. Research by the World Health Organization (WHO) shows that well-planned health education programs can help reduce cardiovascular disease, cancer and metabolic disorders. In view of the difficult situation in the Polish health care system, the growing queues to specialists, the burden on doctors and financial problems, prevention and health education assume special importance. Without a strategic, long-term approach based on prevention, the system will be forced to operate only in a corrective mode, leading to further overload and inefficiency.

"Restorative medicine, although necessary, is costly and requires a huge amount of money." - emphasizes Grazyna Cebula Kubat - Chairwoman of the ZK OZZL, and adds, "No system can function solely on the basis of treating the effects of health negligence, we need a long-term strategy based on investment in health through education, prevention and promotion of healthy lifestyles from an early age. This is the only way to reduce morbidity, reduce the burden on doctors and medical facilities, and rationalize health care spending. A country that does not take preventive measures condemns itself to rising medical costs and a growing crisis in the medical sector."

The National Board of OZZL reminds that concern for public health should be a priority for those in power, and appeals to the Ministry of Education and all decision-makers to introduce "Health Education" as a mandatory subject in Polish schools.
