On Wednesday, as part of the meeting of the Health Committee, a public hearing was held on the MP's bill that gives employers the right to send employees for SARS-CoV-2 tests. It took place, or was supposed to take place, because most of the time was spent by people involved in various types of anti-vaccination measures and those undermining the existence of an environmental pandemic.

The scenario several MEPs warned against during the first reading, which was carried out in December, has thus come true. At that time, i.a. Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz appealed to the presidium of the Health Committee and its chairman, Tomasz Latos, to ensure that experts, representatives of the world of science and doctors were present at the hearing. The exact opposite happened, as the Supreme Medical Chamber informed the public, sending a statement on Wednesday afternoon, according to which the president of the Supreme Medical Council, prof. Andrzej Matyja declined to speak at a public hearing in solidarity with representatives of other medical organizations and experts who were denied the opportunity to speak, explaining that with time limits.

However, it was enough time for representatives of anti-vaccination circles to take the floor. It is difficult to even quote the statements that were made, especially since a small percentage of them concerned the essence of the public hearing, i.e. the project submitted by PiS deputies (Czesław Hoc is the leader of the group), the essence of which is to grant employers the right to send for tests (financed from public funds) workers who fail to provide a certificate of vaccination or convalescence.

As we read in the statement of the Presidium of the Supreme Medical Council, during the meeting there were no votes from the representatives of the Medical Council, medical circles and experts. In the opinion of the President of the NRL, their participation was prevented by a massive way of taking seats by people presenting theses inconsistent with the current medical knowledge and achievements of medicine. - Thus, the public hearing served as a place to proclaim anti-vaccination and conspiracy theories - we read in the announcement of the Presidium of the Supreme Medical Council.

- The applicants were in favor of the rejection of the bill. They emphasized, inter alia, it was unconstitutional, and their arguments were based on the opinions of anti-vaccine "experts" and on unofficial and questionable data. It was questioned, inter alia, there is an epidemic, and vaccines against COVID-19 were defined as experimental preparations that do not increase immunity (even lower it) and do not contribute to reducing the number of cases - emphasizes prof. Andrzej Matyja.

It is known that the Health Commission will resume work on the bill on special solutions ensuring the possibility of running a business during the COVID-19 epidemic next week, on January 11. It is not known whether a possible plenary session is also scheduled for next week (reports from the Health Committee and 2nd reading are not on the agenda).

The Health Committee can ignore all comments and objections raised at the public hearing - these positions are not binding on Members in any way.
