After a year and a half of intensive analysis, meetings with the authorities, the Polish Accreditation Committee (PKA) and representatives of the academic community, the audit of medical faculties at Polish universities has come to an end, reports Sebastian Goncerz, chairman of the OZZL Residents' Agreement. The results of the audit indicate serious problems at several institutions.
Negative PKA ratings were given to the medical faculties of the following universities:
- Academy of Applied Sciences in New Market
- Academy of Applied Sciences in Nowy Sacz
- Prince Mieszko I Academy of Applied Sciences in Poznan
- Social Academy of Sciences in Lodz
Potentially, the University of Siedlce, where PKA experts found significant deficiencies, could join the list.
As Sebastian Goncerz points out, instead of closing these majors, the Ministry of Education and Science is only planning to halt enrollment in these studies for a year. - We believe that this is an insufficient action - students who began their studies last year will still be educated in majors with a negative PKA rating. In our opinion, no student should continue their education in a major with such a rating," he says.
Only WSB Academy received a full, positive evaluation for the entire educational cycle. Other universities, such as the University of Kalisz, the Bielsko-Biała branch and the Wroclaw University of Technology, received conditional evaluations for one or two years. In the coming academic year, all of these faculties, along with those previously positively evaluated, will be re-visited by PKA. - On the one hand, we are happy that our actions led to this audit and the decisions made. On the other hand, we feel frustrated at the ministry's decision to halt recruitment instead of closing faculties with negative evaluations," concludes the chairman of the OZZL Residents' Agreement.
