Endometriosis: From July, free comprehensive care

- You will never again be alone with your suffering. Thank you to all the girls, the women who fought determinedly for years for someone to notice that endometriosis should be treated with public funds. This is your success," stressed Health Minister Izabela Leszczyna, announcing a new model of care for endometriosis patients.
The new system will come into effect on July 1 and responds to the needs of thousands of women for whom endometriosis is not just a painful menstruation, but a chronic disease that often prevents normal life, work and social functioning. The model provides free access to comprehensive diagnosis and treatment - both conservative and surgical, including in cases of extra-genital endometriosis, that is, involving organs outside the reproductive system.
Surgical treatment will be carried out in specialized centers that have the most experience in treating this disease and have adequate technical and medical facilities. The effects of treatment will be monitored, and patients - depending on their individual needs - will also be provided with physiotherapy, psychological support and dietary consultation.
- This is an important development, because endometriosis requires treatment that is not only surgical, but also a holistic approach to a woman's health, says Minister Leszczyna.
The new model of care was developed in cooperation with the national consultant in obstetrics and gynecology and clinical experts. This is the first such comprehensive and publicly funded endometriosis treatment program in Poland.
