In January, the 10,000th child born under the government's infertility treatment program covering medically assisted procreation procedures, including in vitro fertilization, was born. The program, which started on June 1, 2024, is already producing tangible results - both for thousands of families and for the demographic situation in Poland.

In January 2026, the 10,000th child was born under the "Infertility treatment involving medically assisted procreation procedures, including in vitro fertilization, carried out in a medically assisted procreation center, for 2024-2028" program. The program launched on June 1, 2024, and the first child born with its support was born in January 2025. Since then, the number of births has steadily increased. A total of 10,055 children have been born, including 5,023 boys and 5,032 girls.

The largest number of babies were born in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship - 1,988, followed by the Małopolskie Voivodeship - 1,218, the Pomorskie Voivodeship - 1,213 and the Wielkopolskie Voivodeship - 1,210. Currently, 58 centers of medically assisted procreation throughout the country participate in the program. Since its inception, 23,691 clinical pregnancies have been achieved.

For the implementation of the program, no less than PLN 500 million is allocated annually from the state budget, from the part at the disposal of the Minister of Health. In 2025, expenditures for this purpose amounted to PLN 600 million. An increase in funding by another PLN 100 million was also planned in the 2026 budget.

- With this initiative, we provide couples struggling with infertility with equal access to the IVF procedure. It is also an opportunity for motherhood and fatherhood for those before or during oncological treatment. This project is a real impact on improving the demographic situation in Poland, but above all happiness for tens of thousands of parents and their entire families," stresses Health Minister Jolanta Sobierańska-Grenda.

The program is open to married or cohabiting couples covered by health insurance who have been diagnosed with an absolute cause of infertility or the ineffectiveness of previous treatment carried out in accordance with current standards. The program also covers those with cryopreserved embryos from previous procedures.

Precise age criteria have also been introduced. Women can use the program up to the age of 42 if using their own ova or sperm donation, and up to the age of 45 for oocyte or embryo donation. For men, the upper age limit is 55. Oncology patients - women from puberty to age 40 and men up to age 45 - are a special group covered for the collection and storage of gametes before or during treatment.

The project includes funding for the entire medically assisted procreation procedure. The qualification of couples, mandatory diagnostic tests, and all stages of the IVF procedure necessary for its successful and safe performance are reimbursed.

The program provides for six individualized assisted reproductive procedures in a variety of options, including up to four cycles of insemination with own reproductive cells or sperm donation, up to two cycles of insemination with donor oocytes, and up to six cycles with embryo donation.
