Important distinction
"Hospital without pain" is a certificate awarded to facilities that meet criteria for improving the quality of postoperative and chronic pain relief measures. The initiative was created through the cooperation of the Polish Pain Research Society, the Polish Society of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, the Society of Polish Surgeons, the Polish Gynecological Society and the Polish Orthopedic and Traumatological Society. The substantive part of the project is the result of the work of an interdisciplinary group of experts composed of representatives of the societies and the national consultant in anesthesiology and intensive care.
The awarded facilities are obliged to systematically monitor the level of pain intensity of all patients, inform them about the possibilities and methods of its elimination, as well as monitor possible side effects. In addition, the staff of certified hospitals will regularly update their knowledge during special training sessions. The certification is granted for three years, after which time facilities can rejoin the certification process.
- Patients have the right to pain relief, and enabling them to use the best available methods is the responsibility of medical personnel. We are pleased that our facility can boast the "Hospital without pain" certificate attesting to the highest standards of pain relief. This is a very important initiative for the benefit of patients. Our hospital was also among the top ten facilities with the highest percentage of anesthesia deliveries according to National Health Fund data from March this year. - emphasizes dr. Robert Jarzębski, specialist in anesthesiology and intensive care and deputy director for treatment at the Rev. Anna Mazowiecka Clinical Hospital.
Benefits of pain relief
Subjects of certified post-surgery facilities will be asked to rate the severity of pain on the NRS (Numerical Rating Scale), that is, from 0 to 10, with 0 representing no discomfort and 10 representing the worst imaginable pain. In patients who have undergone surgery, the check will be before and after the administration of pain medication, a minimum of 4 times a day, and 2 times for patients in conservative units. If pain continues to persist despite treatment, the medical team should be notified. Pain elimination includes pharmacotherapy (intravenous and oral), physiotherapy and psychotherapy.
- Above all, the certificate is an important piece of information for our patients. It shows that we are updating our knowledge and doing our best to meet their needs. Reducing the pain associated with surgeries and medical procedures can also reduce the risk of complications resulting from untreated or improperly treated acute and chronic pain. It also has a huge impact on satisfaction with the entire treatment process," adds Marzena Sienicka, deputy director of nursing at the Rev. Anna Mazowiecka Clinical Hospital.
