When, more than two and a half years ago, the delegates to the National Congress of Physicians placed enormous trust in me, entrusting me with the honorable position of President of the Supreme Medical Council, I promised all of you the Local Government of the Future. Strong, resilient, caring for the good name and prestige of our profession, focused on the needs of its members. And today we are getting closer and closer to this goal - during this period we have managed to achieve a lot, change a lot, improve a lot - of course, not all the tasks have been completed, but we have clearly set goals and paths leading to them," Lukasz Jankowski writes in the introduction.

What has already been accomplished?

  • The new Code of Medical Ethics - a document that is considered one of the best of its kind in Europe.
  • Introducing online voting in medical board elections, enabled by new bylaws.
  • Establishment of a Council of Experts of the NRL, providing substantive support for the decisions of the Self-Government.
  • Electronic PWZs available on the mCitizen app, making it easier for doctors and dentists.
  • The "I am a Doctor, I am a Man" media campaign, which has improved the image of doctors in society.
  • The formation of the Council for Dentistry, which enables effective problem solving in this field of medicine.
  • Defense of a doctor whose data was revealed by the health minister ended with the minister's resignation.
  • Blocking a quality bill based on the principle of medical reporting.
  • Appointment of Plenipotentiary for Physicians with Disabilities.

The president stressed that "never before has the Medical Council been so strong, had so much influence on current events and had such a strong media presence."

The letter also included space for future plans. Among the priorities, Jankowski listed:

  • Lifting restrictions on the prescription of free drugs for seniors.
  • Introducing automation of reimbursement marking on prescriptions.
  • Adoption of the so-called Higher Good Clause, eliminating criminal liability for non-culpable medical errors.

The president stressed that the swift implementation of these changes will be "the crowning achievement of the local government's effectiveness in this term."

President Luke Jankowski also referred to actions that he believes weaken the unity of the medical community. "I regret that instead of a substantive discussion, the choice was made to use half-truths and rumors," he wrote.

Despite the difficulties, the president pledged to continue working for the Local Government until the end of his term, calling for the active participation of doctors in the upcoming electronic elections. "The Local Government is more than a president, presidium or council. It is the foundation of our identity," he concluded.
