Marek Tombarkiewicz: the law on special geriatric care provides a basis for creating new structures
Published Sept. 7, 2023 13:30
- Geriatrics as a specialty has been around for more than a dozen years, but with the creation of the hospital network, geriatric departments unfortunately did not become those that could raise the level of basic hospital care.
- The law on special geriatric care just signed by President Andrzej Duda provides a basis for good development and the creation of new structures.
- It is very important to increase the number of geriatric wards, because there are very few of them.
- It is necessary to create a system of incentives so that doctors want to specialize in geriatrics.
- The 75 plus health centers will be responsible for the health review. The coordinator working there will direct the patient's health fate.
- Within five years, we should reach the right level of implementation of the law's objectives.
