Applications for specialty training in the autumn qualification procedure can be submitted between September 1 and 30, 2024. The application process covers all medical and medical-dental specialties, and detailed lists of residency and non-residency positions are available in the Medical Staff Training Monitoring System (SMK) and on the website of the Medical Center for Postgraduate Education.
Within the number of residency spots indicated above, 44 spots were allocated for physicians applying for specialty training as part of the extension of the curriculum classes of doctoral school education to the specialty program (so-called resident-doctoral spots).
Specialties in which the most residencies were awarded
Traditionally, the highest number of residency spots have been allocated in areas such as internal medicine (621 spots), family medicine (598 spots) and pediatrics (444 spots). The high demand for specialists in these areas is due to the growing number of patients and the complexity of today's health challenges, including an aging population and an increase in chronic diseases.
Specialties such as neurology (346 seats), psychiatry (345 seats) and musculoskeletal orthopedics and traumatology (285 seats) also received a significant number of residency seats. An increase in the number of residency spots in these areas is crucial to ensure adequate care for patients requiring treatment for nervous system diseases, mental health and musculoskeletal injuries.
On the other hand, the large number of residency places in radiology and diagnostic imaging (268) is aimed at increasing the availability and speeding up diagnostic tests. The fields of emergency medicine (263 seats) and anesthesiology and intensive care (243 seats) are also of strategic importance to the health care system, which is why these fields were also among the 10 fields with the highest number of residency seats.
