Co-financing will be given to infectious diseases wards and diagnostic laboratories in 29 hospitals. Support from EU funds will amount to nearly PLN 200 million. This amount will allow, inter alia, purchase of specialist medical equipment and execution of necessary construction works.

Thanks to EU funding, patients' access to specialized diagnostics and treatment of infectious diseases will increase.

In some facilities, patients will be able to take advantage of comprehensive care, i.e. one facility will provide services in the field of diagnostics, specialist stationary treatment and rehabilitation. The Ministry of Health hopes that the average duration of a patient's stay in the infectious disease ward will also shorten, which will result in the possibility of providing care to a larger number of patients and quick response of institutions in crisis situations.

Thanks to the support of hospitals, people with disabilities will also benefit. Hospitals will allocate funds to increase the availability of infectious diseases wards.

Institutions that will receive EU funds to support infectious diseases wards and diagnostic laboratories do not make their own contribution. REACT-EU funds cover 100% of eligible expenditure. The purpose of the preferential rules for co-financing from REACT-EU is to strengthen the response capacity of the health care system in crisis situations such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
