MZ: Meeting on improving care for seniors

The Health Ministry hosted a meeting between Minister Izabela Leszczyna, Minister for Senior Citizenship Policy Marzena Okla-Drewnowicz and Prof. Katarzyna Wieczorkowska-Tobis, Chairwoman of the Board of the Polish Gerontological Society.

The meeting discussed current challenges related to long-term care and discussed potential directions for the development of senior health policy.

The meeting began with a presentation of the current situation in long-term care for the elderly by Prof. Dr. Katarzyna Wieczorkowska-Tobis. The chairwoman of the PTG Board of Directors also presented the recommendations of the scientific community in the area of ongoing public policies.

Minister Izabela Leszczyna shared information on the current activities of the Ministry of Health in the field of long-term care. Senior Policy Minister Marzena Okła-Drewnowicz presented the direction of senior policy development in the area of health. She also stressed the need for inter-ministerial cooperation in creating effective support mechanisms for the elderly, which will allow them to stay at home and maintain their independence for as long as possible.

The meeting ended with a declaration of cooperation between the Ministry of Health, the Minister of Senior Citizenship Policy, and the Polish Gerontological Society in the development and implementation of responsible senior health policies.
