The Health Ministry has released for consultation a draft regulation on key recommendations for cardiac care and clinical management. The regulations are intended to standardize the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease across the country, improve the quality of care and ensure equal access to services - regardless of where the patient lives.

The draft regulation of the Minister of Health on key recommendations for the organization of cardiovascular care and clinical management implements the provisions of the Law on the National Cardiovascular Network. Cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of morbidity and death in Poland, so it has become necessary to create a coherent system of management.
The new regulations define a patient pathway - that is, a diagnostic and therapeutic algorithm - to be followed by all centers belonging to the NCCC, as well as cooperating units. This is expected to improve the efficiency of care, reduce diagnosis time, standardize clinical practice and increase the quality of treatment. The key recommendations will become a nationwide standard, allowing equal access to modern cardiac care regardless of region.
The regulation is part of the reform of the health care system enshrined in the National Plan for Rebuilding and Increasing Resilience - in the section on efficiency, accessibility and quality of services. Standardization of cardiac care is also expected to help reduce deaths from heart disease and improve patients' quality of life.
A unified treatment pathway will also increase coordination between the different stages of treatment - from first contact at the PCP, through diagnosis and hospitalization, to rehabilitation. This is important because inconsistency and dispersion of care are among the barriers to effective treatment today.
The draft regulation is expected to take effect 14 days after promulgation.
