New chairman of the Main Council of Research Institutes

Prof. Henryk Skarżyński has previously served as the vice-chairman of RGIB. The Council represents as many as 91 Research Institutes in Poland that conduct research for the economy, infrastructure, environment, agriculture, medicine, and broadly understood security and the humanities. Some institutes fulfill important tasks and duties of public services, and numerous solutions developed in research laboratories serve Polish science, national security and defense.
The Main Council of Research Institutes represents the interests of the research community in Poland and abroad and participates in economic and social policy, in particular in science and innovation. The Council's task is to present to state administration bodies its opinions and postulates aimed at solving problems common to the institute community, as well as for the development of science, improvement of innovation and efficiency of the economy, development of research staff, in particular young scientists.
- I am honored that I can represent the entire research community gathered in such a large group of research units and act on its behalf, and thus have an impact on the development of Polish science in the world. During my term of office, I would like to focus on the maximum use of the potential of Polish research institutes, as well as on fruitful cooperation with government bodies, universities and colleges, scientific societies and non-governmental organizations in order to best implement the science and innovation policy of Poland - says prof. Henryk Skarżyński.
Prof. Henryk Skarżyński is a world-famous otosurgeon and an outstanding specialist in otorhinolaryngology, pediatric otolaryngology, audiology and phoniatrics. Among others, he was the first in Poland to perform cochlear implantation operations in the treatment of deafness in children and adults 30 years ago. remnants of hearing and the structure of the inner ear, and 20 years ago he performed the world's first partial deafness surgery, expanding the indications and giving chances not to tens of thousands but tens of millions of potential patients around the world. So far, he has introduced over 150 new clinical solutions to everyday medical practice, which contributed to the development of the field of hearing implants, otosurgery and audiology in Poland and in the world, including the popularization of the "Polish School of Otology" in science and world medicine. The professor conducts extensive educational activities for students and doctors from all over the world. He has conducted over 1,300 demonstration operations for over 8,000 professors, chiefs and other specialists at the World Hearing Center in Kajetany near Warsaw and in dozens of countries on 4 continents. He received numerous academic titles, including he is an honorary professor at the University of Provo, USA, in Chisinau, Moldova, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, an honorary doctorate of the Maria Grzegorzewska Academy of Special Education in Warsaw, University of Warsaw, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University and since May this year. also the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw. The professor was awarded, inter alia, With the Commander's, Officer's and Knight's Cross by the President of the Republic of Poland, high state decorations by the King of Belgium, the President of Georgia and Ukraine, and by His Holiness Pope Francis, the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Primate of Poland, the Order of the Smile, the Order of ECCE HOMO, and over 350 other international and national decorations and distinctions .
He is the author and co-author of 4,486 publications, 60 monographs and 3,912 congress and conference reports, mainly foreign. He was the main organizer of the departmental Institute of Physiology and Pathology of Hearing and since 1996 its director and organizer of the construction and operation of the World Hearing Center, where for almost 20 years the largest number of operations to improve hearing have been performed in the world. He has personally performed nearly 220,000 surgical procedures to date.
He will take over the duties of the chairman of the Main Council on June 27 after the full constitution and appointment of the Presidium of the Council.
