New guaranteed benefits: comprehensive care for patients with endometriosis

What is endometriosis?
Endometriosis is a chronic disease that affects about 10% of women of reproductive age. It involves the presence of endometrial cells (endometrium) outside the uterine cavity. These cells respond to the hormonal cycle, which can lead to:
- chronic inflammatory conditions,
- internal bleeding,
- The formation of nodules, scars and adhesions,
- Changes in the position of the organs of the pelvis minor.
Endometriosis most often occurs in the pelvis, but can also involve other organs - including the intestines, liver, lungs and even the brain. A special form of the disease is adenomyosis - that is, foci of disease located in the uterine muscle.
What will change?
The new regulations provide:
- Adding a new medical procedure: "Excision of a focus of intramural adenomyosis from the sinus of Douglas" - one of the common locations of intestinal endometriosis.
- Introduction of a new guaranteed benefit: "Comprehensive specialized care for patients with endometriosis," which will be provided when certain conditions are met.
To date, care for patients with endometriosis has been fragmented and unsuited to the specifics of the disease. As a result, women have often waited years for a correct diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
The introduction of the new care model is aimed at:
- Providing patients with faster and more accurate diagnosis,
- Improving the quality of treatment - pharmacological and surgical,
- Facilitating access to specialized centers,
- tailoring treatment to individual patients' needs (including maternity plans),
- Ensuring proper funding of complex procedures.
