The Psychiatry Center for Children and Adults was opened today at the University Teaching Hospital in Białystok. - After more than a decade of the white spot in Podlasie, today we are filling the void in child psychiatry. Children from Podlasie will no longer have to be treated in neighboring provinces - said Minister of Health Adam Niedzielski during the opening.

The construction of the Center took three years. The cost is PLN 40 million. The investment was crucial for the provision of psychiatric care in the Podlaskie Voivodeship. So far, no day care center has operated there. As the Minister of Health said, especially child psychiatry in Poland requires urgent support.

- We have been reforming child psychiatry for 3 years. 123 thousand people benefited from community clinics in just 7 months of this year. kids. And in 2019 it was just over 7,000. We are trying to fill in the white spots in psychological and psychiatric care - said the head of the Ministry of Health.

One of the biggest problems that needed to be resolved was the employment of medical staff. The country lacks specialists in the field of psychiatry. Adam Niedzielski assessed that the situation has been systematically improving in recent years.

- We increase staff in psychiatric care. Since 2014, it is almost 50 percent. more child psychiatrists, and today - 514. By mid-September, we issued 500 decisions on the recognition of professional and scientific achievements in the field of psychotherapy for children and adolescents - said the minister.

The contract with the National Health Fund provides for the functioning of 28 places in the ward.
