Prof. Piotr Czauderna advisor to President Karol Nawrocki

Prof. Piotr Czauderna has become one of the social advisors to Polish President Karol Nawrocki. The nomination ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace.

Prof. Czauderna graduated from medical school in 1986. He has been a pediatric surgery specialist since 1995. He defended his doctoral thesis in 1994, received his habilitation in 2002, and was awarded the title of professor of medical sciences in 2013. In 2014, he also completed an MBA jointly conducted by the Gdansk Foundation for Management Training and the University of Aix-en-Provence.

For two decades, he has headed the Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Surgery and Urology at the Medical University of Gdansk. He has also held numerous international positions - including chairman of the Section of Pediatric Surgery of the Union of European Medical Specialists (UEMS) from 2016 to 2023 and chairman of the International Group on Strategies for the Treatment of Liver Tumors in Children (SIOPEL). He is a member of many Polish and foreign scientific societies, including an honorary member of pediatric surgery societies in Germany, Hungary, Ukraine and a member of the Oncology Section of the Indian Society of Pediatric Surgeons. He has authored or co-authored more than 200 publications and nearly 30 book chapters, which have been cited more than 9,000 times. As of 2021, he is listed in the prestigious TOP 2% of the most cited scientists in the world.

He served as chairman of the Health Care Section of the National Development Council from 2015 to 2020, and later as chairman of the Health Care Council (2020-2025) under the President of the Republic of Poland. He participated in the drafting of a number of important laws - including the Oncology Strategy, the Medical Fund and geriatric care.

- You carry deep intellectual power, social power, and the ability to talk to many communities. Each of you is different and comes from a different background, and each of you is an expert in your field," the president said at the nomination ceremony.

In addition to Prof. Piotr Czauderna, the public advisors included Wanda Buk, Alvin Gajadhur, Jacek SARYUSZ-WOLSKI and Slawomir Mazurek. The president stressed that the appointed experts will support him in matters of health care, demographic policy, history, agriculture and new technologies, among others.
