Cardiology experts are concerned that Poland significantly deviates from European and American standards in the use of genetic testing in cardiology, which can significantly contribute to reducing cardiovascular mortality. Therefore, the Polish Society of Cardiology is taking steps to develop solutions that will convince decision-makers of the need to create a system that allows Polish patients to receive treatment in accordance with international standards.
As part of the Year of Genetic Diagnosis, the PTK will undertake a number of initiatives that will culminate in the development of concrete proposals for systemic solutions.
- Genetic diagnostics opens up new possibilities in the prevention and treatment of heart disease, allowing not only early detection of diseases, but also tailoring therapy to individual patients. Our goal is to show that genetics is the future of cardiology and the key to more effective care for the largest group of patients," said Prof. Robert Gil, president of the Polish Society of Cardiology.
ACI priorities
Experts stress that genetic diagnostics can play a key role in detecting diseases such as cardiomyopathies, genetic arrhythmias and familial hypercholesterolemia. Introducing genetic testing into standard medical practice could help reduce the number of cases of sudden death from cardiovascular causes and allow for more effective prevention of these conditions.
- We are committed to ensuring that the entire society has access to reliable information on the benefits of genetic diagnosis in cardiology. The Polish Society of Cardiology is an extremely dynamic organization, and despite many initiatives, we also find a place for genetic diagnostics. We see the need for such activities, as well as the huge potential in this area ," adds Prof. Gil.
The Board of Directors of the Polish Society of Cardiology believes that 2025 will be a breakthrough year for the development of genetic diagnostics in cardiology. Thanks to the joint efforts of the scientific, medical and patient communities, as well as cooperation with policy makers, it will be possible to increase the detection of heart disease and introduce personalized therapies.
