Record spending on private medical services

The reasons for this growth can be traced to health debt, demographic factors and the growing popularity of health insurance.
Poles pay off health debt
Rising prices for medical services and the realization of more services by patients paying off so-called health debt are driving market growth. Marta Marszałek, an analyst at PMR Market Experts, points to an increase in the number of services during a single medical consultation, including more frequent ordering of complex diagnostic tests.
Pharmaceutical products dominate the market
Despite the growth, medical services do not dominate the private healthcare market, giving way to pharmaceuticals, dietary supplements and dermocosmetics. In 2029, pharmaceuticals and non-drugs are projected to account for 53.4% of the market, while medical services will account for 46.6%.
Demographics and medical services
An aging population is increasing demand for medical services. According to PMR Market Experts, by 2029, more than 25% of Poles will be of retirement age, which will increase demand for specialist services. In addition, more than 40% of the active population will be older than 55.
Private health insurance market growth
The value of the private health insurance market grew by 33% in 2023. Subscriptions and health insurance are becoming increasingly desirable non-salary benefits. In 2023, 14% of Polish adults used private health care through subscriptions. Projections indicate that this growth will continue due to problems with the availability of public services and the growing health awareness of Poles.
