- In the morning, the pilot and rescuer prepare the helicopter for duty, including checking the medical and aviation systems. After that, the helicopter is hauled out, and then operational and medical readiness is reported. When a call comes in, we are obliged to take off within three minutes," said Robert Hełminiak, regional director of the Western Region of the Air Ambulance Service, in an interview with Polish Radio Koszalin.
The base is seasonal, meaning that it operates only during the holiday season - from June through the end of the first September weekend. However, efforts are underway to make it a year-round base, which would be located on the site of a former military shooting range. The site for the project was already handed over to LPR by the Ministry of Development and Technology in May.
- The site of the Old Military Shooting Range on Koszalin-Polanów Provincial Road 206 has been handed over to the Air Rescue Service. This is an important step on the way to the establishment of a year-round base of the Air Rescue Service in Koszalin," deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration Paweł Szefernaker wrote on Twitter at the time.
The permanent base is expected to be ready by 2025. Last year alone, the base in Zegrze intervened in 170 cases.
