The Ministry of Health invests in cybersecurity of health care institutions

613 healthcare entities have already signed contracts with the National Health Fund to finance ICT purchases increasing the level of cybersecurity. The total amount of the contracts exceeded PLN 260 million. Yesterday, a pilot training session in the field of cybersecurity for POZ employees was also launched.

- The likelihood of cybernetic and hacker attacks on healthcare entities as a critical infrastructure during the war in Ukraine is increasing. We are strengthening the safety of hospitals, and therefore also of patients and their data, said Deputy Minister of Health Piotr Bromber at a press conference.

The level of funding that can be applied for depends, among other things, on the type of institution. The hospital can apply for funding from 300,000. PLN, and psychiatric clinics from 25 thousand. zloty. for all ICT purchases increasing the level of cybersecurity. The amount of the co-financing depends on the amount of the contract with the National Health Fund, but the maximum amount is PLN 900,000. zloty. Such funding has already been received by, inter alia, University Clinical Hospital Jan Mikulicz-Radeckiego in Wrocław or the National Institute of Oncology. Maria Skłodowskiej-Curie - National Research Institute in Warsaw.

The average level of financing is 434 thousand. PLN.

The money is paid as part of the refinancing of the costs incurred to increase cybersecurity. The condition for the reimbursement of costs is an audit that shows an increase in the level of cybersecurity in the unit.

- In addition to systems and software that ensure prevention and response in the event of cybersecurity threats, education in this area is necessary. We will conduct training in this area for POZ employees so that no unauthorized person has access to patient data - explained the government representative for cybersecurity Janusz Cieszyński.

The trainings will be conducted in small groups by trainers from the Scientific and Academic Computer Network - National Research Institute.
