There will be a pilot treatment of multi-drug resistant tuberculosis in an outpatient setting
Published July 28, 2022 08:57
The aim of the pilot program for treatment of multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis in an outpatient setting is to improve the treatment of multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis, hereinafter referred to as "MDR-TB", in Poland, as well as supranational harmonization and implementation of World Health Organization standards in connection with the migration of people from Ukraine.
For the purposes of the pilot scheme also include:
1) solving the problem of continuity of therapy for persons referred to in Art. 1 clause 1 and 2 of the Act of 12 March 2022 on helping Ukrainian citizens in connection with an armed conflict in the territory of that state (Journal of Laws, item 583, as amended), treated for MDR-TB;
2) to test the telemedicine system of supervision over patients with MDR-TB;
3) reducing hospitalization of patients with MDR-TB in favor of an outpatient service.
The draft ordinance provides for the development of an optimal model of treatment and supervision of drug intake by patients with MDR-TB in an outpatient system in conjunction with a drug supply system. The pilot program complies with the recommendations of the World Health Organization, which will result in the development of a model of care for both Ukrainian refugees and Polish patients. Additionally, as a result of the pilot program, a Polish model of telemedicine drug monitoring in patients with MDR-TB will be developed.
The pilot program is expected to start in August 2022 and run for a period of 24 months, which is related to the duration of MDR-TB treatment, which lasts at least 20 months. The Institute of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases has been indicated as the central coordinating center, while medical entities experienced in the treatment of patients with MDR-TB have been indicated as regional coordinating centers.
