April 10 this year. Minister of Health Izabela Leszczyna appointed a new national consultant in pediatric surgery. She has been appointed Prof. Beata Jurkiewicz, MD, CMKP, a specialist in pediatric surgery and urology. She replaced Prof. Janusz Bohosiewicz.
There is a new national consultant in pediatric surgery

Prof. Jurkiewicz has been affiliated for years with the Children's Hospital in Dziekanow Leśny, where she heads the CMKP Department of Pediatric Surgery and Pediatric Urology. Among other things, she specializes in endo-urological procedures in children with urinary tract stones.
The new national consultant is an active member of many scientific societies, including the Polish Society of Pediatric Surgeons, the European Association of Pediatric Surgeons, the European Urological Association and the European Paediatric Surgeons Association. She is also the author or co-author of more than 120 publications and dozens of congress presentations at home and abroad.
National consultants are appointed by the Minister of Health from among specialists in particular fields:
- Medicine,
- pharmacy,
- Other fields that are applicable to health care.
The minister may ask for candidates:
- scientific societies of national scope that bring together specialists in a particular field,
- The relevant health professional governments.
National Consultants:
- initiate national epidemiological studies and evaluate the methods and results of these studies;
- forecast health needs in their field;
- advise on how to implement tasks that stem from the National Health Program and other health programs;
- Give their opinion on requests to refer a patient for treatment or diagnostic tests outside Poland;
- give opinions and advice on tasks carried out by the Center for Medical Examinations, the Center for Postgraduate Training of Nurses and Midwives and the Center for Medical Postgraduate Training.
