Deputy Minister Kolodziejczak today spoke with representatives of major online sales platforms about the withdrawal of certain crop protection products from their offerings.
- The decision to withdraw has already been made by the two largest online sales platforms. I will soon be in talks with the remaining major players," the secretary of state informed.
- We will make every effort to put the situation in order as soon as possible. Our priority is security," added Deputy Minister Michal Kolodziejczak.
- We are proceeding with legal amendments aimed at comprehensively banning the sale of potent plant protection products requiring professional authorization over the Internet. The changes will be made in accordance with the legislative process," the deputy minister said.
- We are talking about a specific category of plant protection products that are used in fumigation," said chief inspector of the State Plant Protection and Seed Inspection (PIORiN) Andrzej Chodkowski.
- Information on recent tragic incidents shows that these crop protection products were used incorrectly," added the head of PIORiN.
Chief Inspector Andrzej Chodkowski stressed that the institution he heads has carried out more than 4,000 inspections of points of sale and about 21,000 inspections at farms.
- All of the plant protection products purchased had proper labels that clearly stated that they contained highly toxic substances, the deputy minister said.
At the same time, he stressed that such measures under the law cannot be acquired by someone who has not undergone proper training.
- Internet sellers had no practical way of verifying that the buyer had the required authorization, and therefore legislative changes are also necessary, the state secretary said. According to Deputy Minister Kolodziejczak, plant protection products should not be sold over the Internet at all.
At the same time, he assured that the decisions made by inspectors will have the status of immediate enforcement.
