"According to the experts of the Zielonogórski Association, it is worth considering the abolition of referrals to an ophthalmologist. Their introduction has not improved accessibility to these specialists, and is an additional inconvenience for patients. Those in need of ophthalmology consultations must first apply for a referral to a primary care physician, thus blocking the place of another," reads an entry by the Federation Porozumienie Zielonogórskie on the X portal.

Registration of referral-based visits to ophthalmologists was introduced in 2015.
