Until now, the fourth dose of the vaccine in Poland could have been administered to immunocompromised people aged 12+, whose immune response to vaccination may have been insufficient.

From April 20, 2022, the vaccination process will begin with a second booster dose for adults aged 80 and over. Registration for the vaccination will start after midnight on April 19-20.

For those over 80 years of age who have received an mRNA booster dose for at least 150 days, referrals will be issued automatically. In the absence of a referral, the physician will decide whether to issue it.

The second booster dose can be taken by people aged 80+ who have received the full primary immunization schedule (including an additional dose), and the first booster dose with COVID-19 mRNA preparation, i.e. Comirnaty (Pfizer-BioNTech) or Spikevax (Moderna).

There should be an interval of at least 5 months after the first booster dose before the second booster dose.

Only mRNA vaccines are used for booster:

  • Comirnates (Pfizer-BioNTech) in full dose (0.3 ml)
  • Spikevax (Moderna) half dose (50 µg - 0.25 ml).

The same Comirnata (Pfizer-BioNTech) or Spikevax (Moderna) mRNA preparation that was delivered with the first booster dose is recommended for the second booster dose.

Additional information:

  • at the stage of entering data into the vaccination card, it is absolutely necessary to follow the procedure for referrals issued for a booster dose,
  • before administering the next dose of the vaccine (2 booster doses) it is essential to confirm the current vaccination status of the patient,
  • It is not allowed to administer a second booster dose if the first booster was given with a vaccine: Nuvaxovid (Novavax CZ a.s.) or Vaccine Jannsen COVID-19,
  • serological testing to assess response to current vaccination is not recommended,
  • referral for vaccination if the following criterion is met: patient's age (80+), keeping the interval (minimum 150 days), receiving an mRNA booster dose will be issued automatically by the system,
  • in the absence of an automatically issued e-referral, the doctor at the vaccination point may independently issue an e-referral for vaccination to eligible persons, assessing: the patient's age (80+), the interval from the last vaccination (minimum 150 days), and the receipt of the mRNA vaccine (dose first booster).
