Wojciech Andrusiewicz: The percentage of hospitalizations due to influenza has decreased

From December 16 to 22, almost 297,000 deaths were recorded in Poland. cases of influenza and suspected infection with this virus. – Current information shows that this week should be a bit better – predicted Wojciech Andrusiewicz, spokesman for the Ministry of Health, in an interview with RMF radio.

The reduced risk of infections among children and adolescents is expected to improve the situation. Christmas holidays have been going on in schools since last Friday.

– The percentage of hospitalizations is also falling. In the near future it will turn out whether this will be a permanent trend - noted the spokesman.

According to experts, this year's flu season is characterized by the highest morbidity among children and adolescents in years.

- In previous years, we had remote learning and no contact of children with the environment. The children's bodies were a bit sterile. We still have the problem of low vaccination coverage in this age group - said Wojciech Andrusiewicz.

As the spokesperson added, the health care system is well prepared for the flu season. There is also no risk of running out of antiviral or anti-inflammatory drugs and antibiotics. Provisions are also being prepared to simplify the flu vaccination system in pharmacies.
