The Draft Regulation of the Minister of Health amending the Regulation on guaranteed services in the field of dental treatment has been submitted for consultation. The changes include, among other things, expanding the possibility of using modern materials, clarifying the rules for taking pantomographic images, and removing interpretation doubts.

The purpose of the amendment is to clean up the regulations, which, in their current form, have raised many questions of interpretation and limited doctors' ability to apply the latest available solutions.

What problems are to be solved?

The project is a response to problems signaled by the dental community:

  • limited ability to use commercially available materials for permanent fillings,
  • unclear rules for taking a pantomographic photo with description in the case of endodontic or prosthetic treatment,
  • A narrowed catalog of physicians authorized to issue referrals for pantomographic images,
  • No indication of the equipment designed to take such photos,
  • Unspecified scope of services for repositioning and immobilization of dislocated teeth,
  • ambiguities in the removal of splints after treatment of jaw fractures,
  • and the inability to account for acrylic dentures supported by protected tooth roots.

What changes are proposed?

  • More flexibility in material selection - instead of a rigidly defined catalog, a provision will be introduced to allow the doctor to select materials for permanent fillings depending on the patient's needs.
  • Clarification of the rules for taking a pantomographic photo - the examination will be able to be performed for both endodontic and prosthetic treatment.
  • Allowing all dentists to make referrals for pantomographic imaging, which will simplify procedures and reduce waiting times.
  • Indication of the required equipment - there will be a reference in the regulations to a camera for pantomographic images.
  • Clarification of benefit descriptions for tooth repositioning, splint removal and acrylic prostheses - these changes are intended to eliminate ambiguous interpretations and ensure uniformity of billing.
