Pharmaceutical companies withdraw from investments in Russia

Many representatives of global industry have decided to withdraw from Russia and thus oppose the invasion of Ukraine. "Ending the delivery of drugs, including anti-cancer or cardiovascular therapies that are used, among others, by the elderly and children could be lost in the lives of patients, Pfizer said. However, the drug manufacturer will not start new clinical trials or recruit patients for ongoing trials in Russia. Plans regarding any investments in Russia are also put on hold. Pfizer plans to work with the US Food and Drug Administration and other regulators to move all clinical trials to alternative locations outside of Russia. The company will continue to provide medicines to patients already enrolled in the studies.
The Bayer company reacted similarly. In response to Moscow's actions, described as a "special operation", it suspended all financial activities in Russia and Belarus that are not directly related to the area of health and agriculture. Bayer announced that it has already provided farmers in Russia with the necessary agricultural resources for the growing season 2022. The next year's deliveries will be decided depending on Russia's cessation of attacks on Ukraine.
Other Western drug and medical equipment manufacturers have warned that sanctions could complicate the continued sale of products to Russia.
