President of OIL in Szczecin: MP Kaczynski's words on torture are a scandal

- It is inconceivable that a politician, who has been the most influential politician in Poland for nearly a decade, would say without any consideration and without any accountability in public statements that an inmate was tortured while serving his sentence. In Mr. Kaczynski's statement, we clearly hear the suggestion that this may have been done by doctors on political orders. We consider Mr. Kaczynski's words to be an incredible scandal for which he should bear political responsibility," says Michal Bulsa, president of the Regional Medical Council in Szczecin.
The District Medical Council will therefore submit a motion to the presidium of parliament to punish MP Jaroslaw Kaczynski for his outrageous and unsubstantiated words slandering doctors. This is the third such motion in recent days. Earlier, analogous motions were submitted to the Speaker of the Sejm and the Speaker of the Senate, respectively, against Kazimierz Smolinski and Stanislaw Karczewski.
In the opinion of the medical self-government, Mr. Kaczynski's statement in relation to the behavior of doctors towards detainees is an outrageous slander. The medical community says that an atmosphere of hostility is being created against doctors in Poland and attributed to them the ability to "torture" against "political enemies."
- MP Kaczynski's words in the Sejm are disgraceful. It is difficult to comprehend with reason how someone could say them. It is a cynical use of inmate situations to heat up public sentiment and polarize society. We view these words as a strike against doctors to lower their authority and confidence in the health sector. Doctors deserve an apology for these words. We are directing a complaint to the Speaker of the Sejm, Szymon Holownia, with a clear suggestion that Mr. Kaczynski's words should be punished by the Committee on Parliamentary Ethics," says Michal Bulsa.
Recall, Jaroslaw Kaczynski was asked by journalists about the absence of Mariusz Kaminski and Maciej Wąsik, MPs whose mandates were extinguished after they were validly convicted of crimes of overstepping their authority and who were in penitentiaries until Tuesday.
- They are in poor health as a result of the crimes that were committed against them in prison. I have knowledge of their state of health, because I have talked to them. They feel bad, one of them especially, because torture was used against him, there is an institution in the European Union, which we will turn to, accusing the Polish authorities of torture. For no reason at all, a man with nasal septal defects was inserted with a tube, which caused great pain. Forced feeding was carried out, this is torture. People who use such methods should answer with long prison sentences," said Law and Justice Chairman Jaroslaw Kaczynski in the Sejm.
As the president of the ORL in Szczecin, Michal Bulsa, adds, calling medically recognized ways of keeping patients alive torture is evidence that the situation is being exploited politically.
