NRA Vice President Dr. n. pharm. Nicholas Constantine - elected president of the PGEU for 2026

At the General Assembly of the Pharmaceutical Group of the European Union (PGEU), held in Dublin on June 11, the organization's members elected a new president and vice-president for 2026. Dr. n. pharma will take over as PGEU president. Nicholas Konstanty, current vice president of the Supreme Pharmaceutical Council. Ly Rootslane of the Estonian Pharmacy Association was elected as vice president.

The election of the new authorities of the European Union Pharmaceutical Group took place in Dublin on June 11, 2025. Members of the organization entrusted the position of president to Dr. n. pharm. Nicholas Konstanty, current vice president of the Supreme Pharmaceutical Council. The term of office will begin on January 1, 2026. Ly Rootslane, head of the Estonian Pharmacy Association, was named the organization's new vice president.

- I sincerely thank all PGEU members for their trust. The year 2026 will be an extremely important year for pharmacy - the priorities will be the ongoing revision of the European Union's general pharmaceutical legislation, the Critical Medicines Act, and the continuing problems of drug and pharmacy staff shortages. We will continue our concerted efforts to find effective solutions," Dr. Konstanty said after the results were announced.

He stressed that he is keen to work closely with PGEU members to strengthen the role of pharmacists and ensure the development of the profession to meet the growing needs of healthcare systems in Europe.

Dr. Nikolai Konstanty is an experienced pharmacist with more than 20 years of professional experience. Together with his wife, he runs a pharmacy focused on patient-centered pharmaceutical care. He has served as vice president of the NRA since 2024, where he coordinates pharmaceutical care, foreign affairs and business activities.

PGEU's newly elected vice president, Ly Rootslane, has more than 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector. On a day-to-day basis, she heads the Estonian Pharmacy Association, which has more than 300 establishments.

- This is a great honor for me. I am motivated to continue working with members, the Board of Directors and the PGEU Secretariat to emphasize the value that pharmacists bring to society - both in pharmaceutical services and public health," she said after her election.

The Pharmaceutical Group of the European Union (PGEU) represents more than 400,000 pharmacists from 33 European countries. The organization works to strengthen the position of pharmacists in health care systems and monitors and provides opinions on EU legislation concerning the pharmaceutical sector. Since its founding in 1959, PGEU has maintained an ongoing relationship with EU institutions, including the European Commission and the European Parliament. Its mission is to support pharmacists as key players in the health care system, providing daily care to more than 500 million European citizens.
